Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between her and John Matthew. Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow the male of worth to fall prey to the darkness of her twisted life. When fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.
Lover Mine is the eighth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series which takes up where Lover Revenged left off give or take a few weeks. Truthfully, I was a little reluctant to pick this book up after the last couple due to the fact that they just didn’t do it for me like the rest of them did. However a twitter bud @kujo317 talked me into it. I just wasn’t sure if Ward could pull off John Matthew’s story. I mean here is a kid that has been orphaned not just once but a second time after Wellsie was killed and Tohrment disintegrated essentially. Then you have Xhex. This is one Bad ass Vampire/Symphath assassin. Who has been taken by Lash, a sorry excuse of a vampire who in the last book we found out who was really the Omega’s son. He has her hidden away in a townhouse that has a spell cast that hides her from everyone’s view. All anyone can see is the aftermath of the nights that Lash goes to Xhex.
Like I stated I wasn’t so sure about this book but I am SO glad that I read it. Ward has brought back the love of the series with Lover Mine. She did a wonderful job of showing a different side of Xhex you wouldn’t think she had and made it believable, which I think that would be a hard thing to accomplish. Also I loved how John Matthew fought his caveman tendencies that he shares with the other members of the BDB and let Xhex do what she needed to do in order to get what lash did to her, behind her if that makes sense. However there were a few side stories in this book that makes you wonder where she is going to go with them. You have Qhuinn and Blay’s story which I can’t wait to read more of in the future. You also have a mysterious plantation owner who I won’t reveal because that kind of spoils it doesn’t it and I am REALLY interested to find out what she is going to do with it. The Action, the emotions, and the love scenes were all on key with this story. I think I am going to leave it at that because I think I could go on forever and a day about this book.
